The Five Entrances to Père-Lachaise: Which One to Choose?
The cemetery has five entrances. Choose yours based on the graves you want to visit, how you are getting here, and whether steps are suitable for you.
Find all five entrances on the map.
All five gate names stay visible. The numbers match the entrance cards below.
Find the right entrance for your visit.
Porte principale
28 ter, boulevard de Ménilmontant
75020 Paris
The main gate leads into the lower part of the cemetery, near the first divisions. It is a useful landmark if you are arriving from rue de la Roquette.
Getting here: Philippe Auguste · line 2
Porte du Repos
16, rue du Repos
75020 Paris
Use this entrance to reach the cemetery administration offices. It is near the main gate, in the lower part of the cemetery.
Getting here: Philippe Auguste · line 2
Porte des Amandiers
28 quater, boulevard de Ménilmontant
75020 Paris
This gate is near Père Lachaise metro station. Its steps make it unsuitable for visitors with reduced mobility, and its opening hours are shorter than the cemetery’s general hours.
Getting here: Père Lachaise · lines 2 and 3
Porte Gambetta
55–57, rue des Rondeaux
75020 Paris
Arrive on the upper plateau, near the crematorium and columbarium. This is also the starting point for our Highlights walking route.
Getting here: Gambetta · lines 3 and 3 bis
Porte de la Réunion
131, rue de la Réunion
75020 Paris
A quieter entrance on the southeastern side. It has steps and is not accessible to visitors with reduced mobility.
Getting here: Alexandre Dumas · line 2; bus 76, La Réunion stop
Both entrances have steps. Inside, slopes, cobblestones, and narrow paths can also make getting around difficult: an entrance without steps does not guarantee an accessible route.
From your station to the gate
Three key metro stations.
Philippe Auguste
For the main gate or Porte du Repos, in the lower part of the cemetery.
Père Lachaise
For the Amandiers gate: remember the steps and its shorter hours, 10:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. This station is not in front of the main gate.
Gambetta
For the Gambetta gate, on the upper plateau near the crematorium and columbarium.
Bus, Vélib’ & taxi
Bus 61, 69, and 71 serve the main gate area; bus 76 serves the Réunion side. If you use Vélib’ bike sharing, check docking stations and available spaces in the app, then continue on foot: bicycles and scooters are not allowed inside, even when pushed.
For a taxi, give the exact address of your chosen gate. For a guided tour, follow the meeting point on your booking confirmation.

Vehicle access is restricted to funeral processions and specific authorized circumstances, with supporting documents. Vehicles enter through the main gate or Gambetta gate; this is not general parking for sightseeing.
