Finding Famous Graves at Père-Lachaise
Édith Piaf, Jim Morrison, Colette, Oscar Wilde… Start with a name, find the division, and identify nearby paths to plan your stops around the cemetery.
From a name to a location
Three steps to find a famous grave.
Choose a famous person
Search our biographies by name and note the burial location. You can also choose stops based on your interests. Biographies and search results are currently in French.
Search by name (in French) →Locate the section
A division number refers to a section of the cemetery. On the overview map, check its position in relation to the gates and main avenues.
Find a division →Find the grave
Once in the section, compare paths, nearby monuments, and engraved names. Maps help you get your bearings; location details are approximate.

Paths and graves, side by side.
On the left, an area map with names and location dots. On the right, a table of famous people, their occupations, dates, and divisions. Use the two together to connect a name with a place in the cemetery.

The detail that matters
The dot marks the grave.
The name identifies it.
On the book’s maps, a name may be moved slightly to keep it readable. Look for its associated dot and its position in relation to the paths.
On site, stay on accessible paths and respect the graves. A dot on a map is not an invitation to walk between monuments.
